Realize what makes life so wonderful

In our fast paced and high-tech world, it is so common to forget what makes life so wonderful.  All the everyday things we take for granted are truly so amazing. Have you ever stopped to think about what happens when you turn on a light? It is so much more complex than just flipping a switch; electrical currents get sent through the wires, into the bulb, and produce light when they come in contact with the filament. But enough about electricity, the world is full of little details that are seriously incredible, yet so easily forgotten.

On a simple drive through town, you can take time to appreciate the diversity of individuals, the genius engineering behind cars and lights and phones, the artistic design of local shops and cafes, architectural feats, and the beautiful sky and trees and plants. This world is full of amazing things, we just need to take the time to look for it.

Being able to recognize the wonder and beauty of the world has been a key factor in maintaining mental and emotional health. It is said that the happiest people are the most grateful.

It is so easy to get caught up in the craziness of the rest of the world, with busy workdays and ever present entertainment in the media, but so much peace can come by just taking some time to enjoy the world around you.

In my own life, I would love more time to devote to "old fashioned" activities like going for walks, reading  books, watching the sunset, and spending quality time with the real, special people in my life. It is crazy how easy it is to be glued to a screen all day, doing seemingly "important" things, that really don't bring any peace or fulfillment.

Next time you find yourself stressed out by the loud voices of the world, close your computer, set down your phone, and spend sometime outside in the sunlight, enjoying the beauty of the world.

Scientific studies have proven that mindfulness and relaxation are key to a healthy lifestyle. Examples of ways to disconnect from the world and spend some alone time include yoga, meditation, journaling, and walking.

By taking some time to reflect, the world becomes a more wonderful place and it is easier to accomplish everything in life.
